John Krasinski, who starred in A Quiet Place, remembers which sequence from The Office’s nine seasons is his pick for the funniest episode ever.
Former cast member of The Office John Krasinski has shared his favorite NBC comedy scene.
With his Jack Ryan co-star Michael Kelly, Krasinski spoke about his time on The Office in a WIRED Autocomplete Interview. The Office’s Season 6 episode “Secret Santa” prompted Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert in all but one of the show’s episodes, to go away from the camera and laugh aloud. In the holiday episode, Steve Carell‘s character Michael Scott asks Brian Baumgartner’s character Kevin Malone to sit on his lap and tell him what he wants for Christmas.
“As soon as Steve said, ‘What would you like for Christmas little boy,’ he lost all the air in his body when Brian sat on him,” Krasinski remarked. “I’ve never laughed harder in my life. And if you’re a fan of the show, you know they used to just swing pan to Jim for a reaction, and I looked over to the cameraman and said, ‘Don’t even try it. I will not be here,’ and so every time he swings, it’s to an empty room; I just wasn’t there.”
Since his office days, John Krasinski has remained busy.
After the mockumentary series gave him a big break in his career, Krasinski tried his hand at writing and directing. Alongside his wife, Emily Blunt, Krasinski co-wrote, directed, and co-starred in the 2018 horror movie A Quiet Place. The Jack Ryan actor had similar duties for the 2020 sequel A Quiet Place Part II, but he only had a little part in a prominent flashback scene. A Quiet Place: Day One, a spinoff, and A Quiet Place Part III, with release dates of 2024 and 2025, respectively, is apparently in production.
In 2018, Krasinski also started playing Jack Ryan, the show’s lead role. Jack Ryan, which is based on Tom Clancy’s “Ryanverse,” follows a CIA financial analyst who is assigned to various seasonal tasks. Season 2 of the show, for instance, centers on Jack Ryan’s investigation into Venezuela’s corrupt political conflict. Jack Ryan also stars Wendell Pierce, Abbie Cornish, and Ali Suliman in addition to Krasinski and Kelly.
Other The Office cast members have carried on with their acting careers besides Krasinski. In the recent film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute on the NBC series, plays eccentric DJ Dr. Demento. In addition to providing voiceovers for the animated films Despicable Me, Wreck-It Ralph, and Inside Out, Mindy Kaling, who portrayed Kelly Kapoor on The Office, also created, produced, and acted in the Fox sitcom The Mindy Project.
