Tom Cruise, star of the blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick, recently took to the skies to thank audiences for their support of the film. In a video filmed on the set of the upcoming Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1, Cruise is seen speaking to fans from the back of an in-flight helicopter high above the shores of South Africa.
After several years of delays, Top Gun: Maverick finally premiered in theaters around the world and was met with great success. The long-awaited sequel to the classic 80s flick received almost universal acclaim for its captivating cinematography and thoughtful continuation of the characters and story. When asked about the film’s impressive box office performance and why it was able to outperform Marvel Studios, executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer attributed it to the cinematic experience. “I think audiences have been seeing so much CGI, which is wonderful, I go see the same movies, but it’s also nice to see the real deal, and to be part of a camaraderie of characters that get up in the sky and have to be as good as they can be,” Bruckheimer said.
As for Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1, the latest installment in the popular franchise is expected to feature some of Cruise’s most death-defying stunts to date. A behind-the-scenes video of the shoot shows the actor performing what he describes as “the most dangerous thing we’ve ever attempted.” The scene in question sees Cruise driving a motorcycle off a cliff before separating from it in the air and engaging his parachute.
Top Gun: Maverick will be available on Paramount+ on Dec. 22, and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 is set to premiere in theaters on July 14, 2023. Fans of Tom Cruise and action-packed films will not want to miss these exciting releases.
