Tony Stark changed billion-dollar Iron Man suits just like an ordinary man changes his socks. For the final war in Avengers: Endgame, Stark wore the Mark XXXV armor.
Tony has built and later destroyed total 64 suits in some way or another. 30 Iron Man Suits Tony lost while helping in the Chitauri Invasion and 34 suits he lost after 5 years Thanos’ snap. The first Iron Man was seen making the Iron Suit “IN A CAVE WITH A BUNCH OF SCRAPS”. However, the number of Iron Suits in the comics are different than in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The different Iron Man Armor Suits by Tony Stark
The first armor he wore was in Tales of Suspense #39 (March 1963). Tony’s armor was greyish in colour and quite simple. Later in the next issue he painted it gold.
Iron Man’s trademark Iron man Suit came in Tales of Suspense #48, December 1963. The red and gold design that ever since been the trademark Iron Man suit. Also, in the 70’s, old Shellhead displayed a nose on the faceplate (The Invincible Iron Man Vol. 1 #68, June 1974). This happened due to some miscommunication between the editors and Stan Lee. But it was later rectified. The most legendary vesrion of the red and golden Iron Man armor suit featured in The Invincible Iron Man volume 1, #85 (April 1976).
Thereafter, seven new armor suits for Iron Man were introduced in 1980s including the Stealth Armor (black), Silver Centurion Armor (red and silver), and Space Armor (black). Later in 1990s, 13 more designs for armor suits were introduced including the Hulkbuster Armor and the War Machine Armor.
In 2000s, sixteen more Iron Man armor suits were introduced to the pages of Iron Man comics including Thorbuster Armor and Hulkbuster II.
So, in the past 10 years period there have been a huge number of new Iron Man suits design being introduced. Since 2010 hardly 20 new suits were featured in the comics.
Therefore, it comes out that Tony Stark has done with 61 distinct Iron Man suits in the comics. And this number is increased to 85 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the Fin Fang Foom-Buster armor will never appear on the big screen. But it can happen in Marvel/Pacific Rim crossover!
