Netflix has confirmed in the past that its hit comedy-drama series, Emily in Paris, will be returning for season 2. Although just a season old, Emily in Paris has garnered quite a good fanbase and the fans are excited to see what is in store for Emily. Here is everything we know so far about Emily in Paris.
The Netflix Original comedy-drama series directed by the Sex and the City director, Darren Star, got renewed by Netflix on November 11th, 2020. Netflix posted a video on various social media platforms where the cast comes together and says the word Deux, which means two in French. By the time season, 2 was announced Emily in Paris was streaming on Netflix for more than two weeks and it became quite successful and remained at the top of the charts in a number of regions before being dethroned by The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Despite being a simple comedy-drama, Emily in Paris has had its fair share of criticism from the French for stereotyping their culture. Fashion critics also bombed the show for its allegedly horrible fashion choices despite the fact that the show was heavily based on the fashion industry. Nevertheless, creator Darren Star shrugged off the critics and said that he was happy that people were taking time to watch the show. Within a short span of time, Emily in Paris garnered a strong fanbase. As of November 11th, the show was in the top 10 in the US for over 20 days and in the UK the show remained in the top 10 for about 40 days.
Emily in Paris Season 2 will all be about Gabriel?
Darren Star, in an interview with Oprah Magazine, stated some of his thoughts and gave some insights on Emily in Paris Season 2, he said, “In season 2, she’s [Emily] going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she’s living in. She’ll be more of a resident of the city. She’ll have her feet on the ground a little more. She’s making a life there.” By the end of season 1, we saw Emily finally adjust to Paris and start enjoying her life. Emily and her neighbour, Gabriel gave in to their mutual attraction, and thus we are excited to see how their relationship develops in Season 2. With Gabriel’s ex, Camille, still in the picture, it’ll be interesting to see how awkward things get and how Emily deals with all this. We might also get to see more of Emily’s dynamic with her uptight Boss and other colleagues. All in all, it looks like Season 2 will be promising.
Cast and Crew: Who is returning?
Although Netflix has not yet announced the cast, the main cast especially Lilly Collins has shown their interest to return to Season 2. Assuming there will not be any hurdles regarding dates, we think these members will be returning:
- Lily Collins – Emily Cooper
- Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu – Sylvie Grateau
- Bruno Gouery – Luke
- Camille Razat – Camille
- William Abadie – Antione Lambert
- Ashley Park – Mindy Chen
- Lucas Bravo – Gabriel
- Samuel Arnold – Julian
As far as new additions to the cast are concerned, Netflix has not clearly stated anything yet.
Production and release date of Emily In Paris Season 2:
The show is scheduled to begin its filming in May 2021 and the filming process will continue through the summer of this year. Production Weekly previously said they expect the filming of Season 2 to begin by the end of April 2021 but in an interview with AP, Darren Star has said production would actually begin on May 3rd, 2021 so we are still hoping the production will wrap up by July 2021. However, it is well known that post-production takes a long time, and thus when the show actually comes out on Netflix is a big question. The production of Season 1 took place in Paris in August 2019, and the show finally premiered in October 2020, which is a long gap. Thus, we are putting our money on an early 2022 release if not a late 2021 release.
