Marvel & Genis Vell

Who fooled Captain Marvel?

Before Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel’s responsibilities were taken by many Marvel heroes. Moreover, each one of them added their uniqueness to the superhero. The Original Captain Marvel was once considered as the noblest of all the Marvel heroes. This was before he gave in to death.

Who was Captain Marvel’s Son?

Marvel had a son Genis. He was created from his cell’s samples. He was artificially turned into adulthood and therefore drove into his father’s role. Rick Jones helped Genis to deal with huge responsibilities on his shoulder. Their physical bond helped Genis to deal with abnormal situations even without any emotional maturity. However, the new CM didn’t always get awesome advice from Rick.

Rick and Genis shared a strange relationship. Both their existence depended on each other. One could only exist in the ‘regular’ Marvel Universe if others lived in the Microverse. But both shared a physical bond and therefore it allowed them to communicate telepathically. Rick would use Genis’ eyes to see what was happening in the real world.

Rick & Captain Marvel

Rick had earlier also been a sidekick to Captain America, the original CM, and to the Hulk. So, he was apt for this role for the Genis. Despite their compatibility, Rick and Genis experienced a tense relationship in initial days. During those days, Rick told Genis how CM wanted to have a catchy phrase like Hulk‘s – ‘Hulk Smash’ so that he could be differentiated. So, Rick himself picked a catchphrase for Marvel- ‘Owah Tagoo Siam!’

The Cosmic Hero Captain Marvel was trapped

This phrase that Rick picked up for CM sounded more like some alien language. “Owah Tagoo Siam” meant – “Oh, what a goose I am!”. It was a prank phrase used by many school kids. But Captain Marvel didn’t know any of it and believed Rick on his face value. However, Rick fooled Captain Marvel.

Carol Danvers

Later, Carol Danvers had a choice to fill in for the role of CM as Genis left it. No wonder why CM never realized that his phrase was just a joke. And that he should not say this phrase everywhere he goes. He puzzled the simple citizens who couldn’t understand what their hero meant. Poor Captain Marvel!
