Did Hal’s luck make him the next Green Lantern?
Over the years, Green Lantern’s mythology had been twisted by the storytellers of DC Comics. Hal’s luck would be charged and he eventually would have proven himself as the greatest Lantern of all the times to the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. He would be the one to take Green lantern’s legacy forward. Fortunately, the truth about his election didn’t rely on luck at all. Hal didn’t only want to prove himself to his cynical superiors but also to Superman. Because he wanted Superman to know that he did the right thing even before they became friends.
The Twist in the Story
In the story “The Decision”, Hal Jordan’s origin and its secret details were revealed. Every fan already knew the story of dying Green Lantern – Abin Sur. The question- How the story began? It is known to everyone: Lantern crashed in a distant location, bleeding with time slowly with desperate eyes to find his successor. Abin Sur being aware of the clock ticking and time losing gave an order to his magic ring. “My successor will be absolutely without fear. Find my successor.” Whatever happened next had been a secret to many of his fans to date. The twist began when Superman was selected as the next Green Lantern by the ring’s energy. He was chosen to take forward the Green Lantern’s legacy.
Superman was literally the bravest Superhero on the planet Earth at a time hence nobody could blame Abin Sur’s ring for what happened. Since Abin Sur was a master of alien disputes and recognized that “Clark Kent” was something more than just a human being. The ring not just informed Abin Sur about Superman being a Kryptonian but also revealed the ultimate character and experience to select who should be endowed with the ring and classified as Earth’s new Green Lantern and hence the one to take forward the Green Lantern’s legacy.
