Why Do We Love Disaster Movies So Much?

The question for today. Why do we love Disaster movies so much? Why is that we love when a huge tidal goes over a city or when a huge monster rampages around the city?

Today we are going to answer this question. We are going to go into some things which we think are the answer to Why we love Disaster movies so much. With the current world scenario, Business Insider confirmed that people are consuming the disaster content more than usual. The genre which is in trend for almost a decade has shot up even more. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Buildings fall and water rise up

There are 2 basic reasons why we love Disaster movies so much. Excitement/Adrenalin and Curiosity. Yep, those 2 are the main reasons. Let us explain. Starting with Excitement. Disaster movies are usually commercial movies, as to show a grand level of destruction you need a grand level of money. The grand is the reason for excitement. Watching buildings fall, earth crack and water rise up to the land gives us an adrenaline rush, which then leads to the release do dopamine in our bodies. Hence, the excitement to see that level of destruction makes love these movies even more.

But there is a small catch in excitement. We only have excitement for these because we see them on a screen. Where we know we are safe. It’s a totally different issue when we have to experience a disaster. It’s the same as we all love a lion, but we all don’t want to go near it. It’s not so exciting when it happens to you, is it? But as the saying goes, the heart wants what it wants. So, I guess, we love people dying on the screen for fun but it’s not fun when it happens in real life.

Secondly, we have Curiosity. The fact that what will happen if something like that happened in real life. How the people and other countries would react to that situation? How will we cope up with it? And the biggest question. Will I be like the hero to survive and save other people at the same time as shown in the movie? But again, the curiosity only stays when the disaster is happening on the screen and not in your city.

Whatever the reason, we all love these disaster movies. They give us a huge amount of happiness and excitement. Who doesn’t love when a huge horde of zombies tear the living apart in front of our eyes?
