Dune, Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy has set a landmark victory in the world of cinema. It has set the bar very high for the fantasy genre. Return of the King has been compared to it so many times and ways. The type of admiration that Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings has received doesn’t happen with every other film that appears. Therefore, it is very difficult for any other show or movie to surpass the level already set by Peter. Even Peter Jackson himself realized this in the case of The Hobbit.
Harry Potter and Star Wars trilogy also a part of the franchises of the history
In the history of franchises, there are a very small number of franchises that have made it so big the field of cinema. Few of these franchises who have gained such an iconic status include Harry Potter and Star Wars trilogy. They have their legacy. However, in a recent interview, Tom Brown, director of Dune art, disclosed that according to him Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming adaptation of the iconic sci-fi novel holds a huge chance to join the list of iconic franchises.
“I think what Denis Villeneuve is doing is what’s called a seminal version of this story. I don’t think it will be topped, to be perfectly honest. The sheer scale of it is going to be daunting. But I do think it’s going to be extremely special. I heard in the paper the other day that they’re looking at the new Lord of the Rings, and I firmly believe that. I think it’s going to be up there with those kinds of films.”
Warner Bros. are investing much on Dune
Warner Bros. is said to be paying out around $200 million for the sci-fi movie adaptation of the novel (Dune). Also, Villeneuve is only modifying the first half of the original material to make it successful for releasing a sequel.
David Lynch’s 1984 version notoriously bombed at the movie theatres worldwide. However, Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 proved that while he is skilled in huge budget sci-fi movies. It don’t guarantee the fact that a huge number of audiences will watch it. This too after Ridley Scott’s movie made only $260 million while it was made on a budget of around $185 million.
Dune‘s first trailer is expected to drop this month. However, it is scheduled to release in December. There is a lot of time for us and anyone to decide if Dune stands a chance to become a part of the legendary franchises list.
