On July 16, 2020, Netflix officially announced the return of the globally popular series, The Last Kingdom, for yet another season which will continue the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg during England’s early years.
When The Last Kingdom Season 5 Will Release
Although there is no official release date for Season 5 of The Last Kingdom, it was expected to be delayed because of the ongoing pandemic, However, it has been confirmed that the filming for season 5 is already underway.
In a Q&A with Radiotimes.com, Alexander Dreymon, who plays the lead character, “Uhtred of Bebbanburg,” on The Last Kingdom, recently confirmed that the production for The Last Kingdom Season 5 is going on and they are following very strict COVID- 19 guidelines. Although Netflix has teased that the fifth season won’t be streaming until the very end of 2021, if we’re being fairly optimistic and the work runs without any issues, we might be getting a release in late 2021. However, it is also possible that the release might get pushed back to 2022.
What Fans Can Expect From The Last Kingdom Season 5
The final book in Cornwell’s War Lord series was recently released and got very positive reviews, offering an end to Uhtred of Bebbanburg’s epic saga. However, the next batch of 10 episodes of season 5 won’t reach that point in the story and instead focus on Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer, the ninth and tenth books in the 13-part series. Nothing is guaranteed as Netflix has been known to make major changes to The Last Kingdom books.
The synopsis for the next season started, The fifth installment will see Uhtred realize his destiny is more than just Bebbanburg: it is tied to the future of England itself. Charged with training King Edward’s first-born son Aethelstan as a warrior, Uhtred’s ambition will have an even higher purpose. But to achieve this destiny, Uhtred will have to face down his greatest enemy and suffer his greatest loss.” This suggests that Uhtred would have a hard time enduring this loss as he has already mourned numerous family members, friends, and lovers. With the introduction of yet another formidable warlord, Ragnall Ivarson, mind-blowing action awaits in The Last Kingdom Season 5.
