Wonder Woman Lovers In DC

Too Many Lovers Of Wonder Woman

Let’s dive into the love life of Wonder Woman

It wouldn’t be a stretch to call Wonder Woman the most famous female superhero of the DC comics, if not the world. Being a princess of non-aging female warriors called the Amazons residing on the island Themyscira, where no man is allowed to set foot, although some exceptions have been made after Wonder Woman’s journey into the world of man, this might be the reason why Amazons are so angry all the time, built up carnal desires.

Wonder Woman's Love Life

That doesn’t mean Amazons don’t procreate. They have been known to raid the ships that happen to wander near the island and force themselves on the men on the ship and finally killing them all. Pretty gruesome to be in the comics aimed at kids if you ask me. But Wonder Woman has officially never taken part in such criminal acts, you know because obviously, she is a leading lady of DC comics who has to have some standards and pass through PG ratings.

So, does that mean Wonder Woman, who is thousands of years old, has never had any relationships?

Well, she has been linked with many characters throughout her comic book and other media history; some very prominent, some not so much, some for long terms while some as a brief stint.

Here is a brief rundown of her well known lovers, ex-lovers and potential suitors

Steve Trevor

“I had a great life and you only made it better”

Steve Trevor was the first man Wonder Woman ever laid eyes on. A pilot who crashed near the island, Steve Trevor was rescued by Diana and nursed back to health. She was obviously quite fascinated by him as she hadn’t seen the other fish in the pond if you know what I mean. But her first encounter with him naturally created a deep bond between them. Love at first sight, if you may. In a very cliché rebellious daughter trope, she runs away from her island along with Steve Trevor to explore the world. Since then Steve Trevor has been a sort of official love interest of Wonder Woman.

Batman

“Diana is a remarkable woman. She is a valued friend. She is … standing right behind me, isn’t she?”

Wonder-Bat is the officially shipping title for Batman and Wonder Woman as a couple. This spark of pop-culture romance was ignited in the classic animated TV series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited on Cartoon Network. Since, then duo has amassed some vocal fans who want these two to officially hook-up in the main continuity of the DC comics. That being said, they were never officially a couple, just two Superheroes with a lot of romantic tensions brewing between them which is implied in several episodes.

Superman

“I’ve spent all my life hiding and holding back all I could be but when I met you, suddenly I was free. With you, I can just be me.”

The New 52 comics and the animated universe, Wonder Woman and Superman have been dating and there was an actual connection between the two on an emotional level. Superman being the strongest living being on Earth and Wonder Woman not lagging behind, they were the perfect couple given the circumstances. Picture this for a second: Can a man who can bench-press the weight of the entire planet for 5 days straight without breaking a sweat have a healthy relationship with a mortal woman like Lois Lane? Obviously not. The only perfect mate Superman in a real world would be Wonder Woman. Although, their romance was “retconned” out of existence from the main continuity, many elsewhere stories have hooked them together. For example, in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Strikes Again, the duo has a daughter named Lara.

Wonder Woman and Superman Love Interest

Aquaman

“I can’t believe I ever loved you.”

In DC’s very successful Flashpoint Paradox comic series, Arthur Curry, the king of Atlantis also known as Aquaman and Wonder Woman share a night together in a fit of wild uncontrolled passion after they form a treaty that doesn’t last long. Unbeknownst to the two, Mera, Aquaman’s wife, sees them tasting the forbidden fruits of lust. Later on, Mera tries to kill Wonder Woman out of jealousy but proves no match for the might for Diana of Themyscira. Wonder Woman decapitates her and sends her head back to Aquaman, who then declares war on Amazons. That one night of love literally lead to the destruction of most of Europe and eventually the entire world. Sheesh!
