Zack Snyder is getting ready to release his version of Justice League on HBO Max. Nicknamed by fans as the “Snyder-cut” the director’s version of the 2017 DC team-up film is officially titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League and will be released as a single, four-hour-long movie on the streaming service.
At IGN Fan Fest 2021, the director sat down with us to go in-depth on this new version of Justice League answering questions from us and fans online. There were plenty of details from Snyder ranging from information about new characters in the movie like Deathstroke and Jared Leto’s Joker, as well as a chance to hear Snyder himself explain the backstory of his and Ben Affleck’s version of Batman.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League Feature 15 Minute Sequence
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will feature an extensive 15 minute sequence that explores Victor Stone’s past and how he came to be Cyborg. Whedon seemed to severely alter the character from what Snyder had originally intended, and Fisher came forward alleging abusive onset behavior from Whedon.
Since then, Fisher and Warner Bros. have been engaged in a lengthy and public battle about the 2017 Justice League reshoots. The allegations and subsequent backlash culminated in Fisher being removed from the upcoming DC Film The Flash. Fisher has made it clear that he no longer wishes to work in the DC Extended Universe while Walter Hamada, DC Film’s current president, oversees the movies. Fisher has said, however, that he would be more than willing to work with Snyder again on a Justice League 2. The actor returned for the 2020 Justice League reshoots to help Snyder see his vision through.
Part of that vision included a more expansive backstory centered around Victor Stone. The upcoming film will feature a lengthy flashback sequence centered around the character, revealed in an interview . The composer also revealed the length of the track and the flashback scene featuring Cyborg: 15 minutes.
“So, Cyborg’s past is really troubling as well. His section in the movie is called Cyborg’s Story and it’s basically a 15-minute scene where we see what his backstory is and where he’s from and what happened to him.”
While those who enjoy Fisher and Cyborg are surely excited to see an entire sequence centered around the character, it’s also a reminder of Fisher’s uncertain future in the DCEU. With a solo Cyborg movie seemingly on hold and Fisher’s appearance in The Flash nixed, there are no current plans for Cyborg to make a DCEU return. Fisher, too, seems reticent to work with the people who have so severely bungled the situation surrounding the 2017 reshoots. Seems like, just as Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the director’s last hurrah in the DCEU, it may also be Cyborg’s.
